Prior to Chesapeake, Carl worked for Texas Instruments on the High Speed Anti-radiation Missile (HARM) in the quality and reliability area, focusing on quality and process improvements in fabrication and assembly. Carl worked for Digital Equipment where he served as quality supervisor and quality manager for the printed wiring board manufacturing facility. While there, he supported the startup of a new product in a new facility. He led the effort to gain and maintain ISO 9000 compliance. Carl also served eight years in the U.S. Army, both in Europe and the United States.
Since joining Chesapeake in 1995, Carl Gerhiser has worked in a wide variety of firms manufacturing furniture, automotive components, pharmaceutical products, golf clubs, and engineering services. He has led development and improvement efforts in manufacturing processes, business processes and information technology systems. In the manufacturing arena, he has assessed numerous situations and applied the appropriate improvement methodology – lean, quality improvement or TOC – to the situation to provide the maximum leverage to the improvement effort. Carl has provided leadership in multiproject environments by helping to formulate project plans for up to 18 projects, then managing the projects. His last engagement resulted in a 90% on time performance.
Carl holds a Bachelor’s in Engineering from the United States Military at West Point and a Masters in Business with a focus in Finance from the University of North Texas. Carl is married and has three children and four grandchildren. Occupying the remaining space in his home is a golden retriever whose expertise is retrieving tennis balls. Carl enjoys riding bicycles, plays competitive tennis and even survives playing mixed doubles with his wife.
